DEM Party: It is our duty to honor Önder’s memory by continuing the peace struggle he fought for

In a statement paying tribute to Sırrı Süreyya Önder, who passed away earlier today, the DEM Party said, “It is our duty to honor his memory by continuing the peace struggle he fought for at the cost of his life and bring it to a successful conclusion."

The General Headquarters of the People's Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) issued a message of condolence for Sırrı Süreyya Önder, a member of the İmralı Delegation and Deputy Speaker of Parliament, who lost his life earlier today, on the 18th day of his treatment in the intensive care unit of an Istanbul hospital following a cardiac arrest on April 15.

Following a memorial service at Atatürk Cultural Centre (AKM) at 11:00, after the afternoon prayer, the funeral prayer will be performed at the Barbaros Mosque in Levent, while Önder's funeral will be held in Zincirlikuyu Cemetery.

Condolences will be accepted at all DEM Party provincial and district organizations starting tomorrow, 4 May.

Today, 3 May, starting at 19.15, condolences will be accepted at the Nazım Hikmet Cultural Center in Şişli.


The DEM Party message said: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of our İmralı Delegation Member and Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Sırrı Süreyya Önder. We extend our condolences to the people of Turkey, his family, and his loved ones. It is our duty to honor his memory by continuing the peace struggle he fought for at the cost of his life and bring it to a successful conclusion. We will honor the memory of Sırrı Süreyya Önder and uphold his struggle for peace.”
