Iranian court upholds dismissal of Kurdish teacher over alleged anti-state activities

The Iranian regime’s repression of the Kurdish population continues unabated.

Branch 31 of the Court of Administrative Justice has upheld the dismissal of Somayyeh Akhtar-Shomar, a 37-year-old Kurdish teacher from Marivan, Kurdistan Province, with 17 years of service, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) reported.

According to the report, the original decision to dismiss the Kurdish teacher was taken on 17 March 2024 by the Primary Disciplinary Committee of Civil Servants in Kurdistan Province.

The authorities accused Akhtar-Shomar of “supporting and assisting opposition groups”, “publishing offensive content and spreading false information against the Islamic Republic”, “actively participating in illegal teachers’ union channels”, “drafting internal English exam questions in support of insurgents”, and “supporting opposition groups in the Kurdistan Region [of Iraq] on social media”.

According to KHRN, the Administrative Court issued the dismissal decision on 27 April 2025 and formally notified Akhtar-Shomar in writing in recent days.
